We are proud to announce the opening of our new apartment hotel, Altona Hotel Apartment, located in one of Bergen's most iconic buildings. Formerly known as Hotel Augustin, the building has been a central part of the city's hotel scene for over 100 years.

The History of Hotel Augustin

Before Hotel Augustin became a hotel, the building was a private apartment complex built in the late 1800s. During this time, the area surrounding the building was a busy commercial district, characterized by wealthy families living in the impressive buildings that adorned the city. In the early 1900s, the building was converted into a hotel by Danish hotel pioneer Augustin Sørensen, who named the hotel after himself. Hotel Augustin quickly became a popular accommodation spot and a well-known landmark in Bergen. The wine bar established in the hotel's basement became a central gathering place for both locals and tourists. This wine bar, which later became a beloved part of the city's heritage, holds an important place in the hotel's identity.

To honor and continue this historic tradition, we have chosen to name our new apartment hotel "Altona" – a tribute to the wine bar that was one of the most well-known and cherished spots in the building's long history.
