We’ve come a long way since Bjørvika Apartments and Sky Hotel Apartments were founded in 2009. In 2022, we introduced a new brand identity - VANDER - inspired by the Direction North design concept and created with a lot of love.
Our new look reflects the evolution of recent years – and this is only the beginning. We’re excited to keep growing and expanding even further.
Vander currently operates a portfolio of more than 1500 units across Norway and Sweden, making us one of the largest apartment hotel chains in Scandinavia today.
We aim for 4-star quality in everything we do. With our own team dedicated to building custom furniture and apartment features, we ensure that design, comfort, and functionality always meet the highest standards.
At Vander, sustainability is built into everything we do. We care deeply about the environment and believe in taking responsibility for the impact we have on the world around us. Our approach is holistic, considering the planet, people, and long-term economic balance. As part of a larger ecosystem of suppliers, guests, employees, and partners, we’re committed to making thoughtful choices that reduce harm and increase positive impact.
Instead of daily housekeeping, we provide weekly cleaning and departure cleaning. This reduces laundry, saves water and energy, and lowers unnecessary use of cleaning chemicals — all without compromising comfort. To reduce single-use waste, we prioritize refillable solutions throughout our apartments — from soap and shampoo dispensers to cleaning products. It’s a simple step with a significant environmental impact.
All our properties are equipped for easy waste sorting and recycling. Both guests and staff participate in separating materials like plastic, metal, paper, and food waste, ensuring as little as possible ends up in landfill.
From energy-efficient lighting to durable, in-house-designed furniture that stands the test of time, we prioritize quality and longevity over disposability. We also choose local suppliers and materials where possible, reducing transport emissions and supporting sustainable production chains.
When furniture is no longer in use at Vander, it doesn’t go to waste. Instead, we donate selected pieces to sheltered housing and make others available for second-hand sale. This extends the life of each item, reduces landfill waste, and supports both social and environmental sustainability.
Back in 2009, Vander which then was Bjørvika Apartments started with the purchase of three apartments which were rented out to artists who came to Norway for productions in the country's largest cultural arenas.
Since then, the company has grown organically by approx. 25% annually. The company currently has over 200 employees, which consists of cleaners, administration, caretakers and several other functions held internally.
Our biggest growth was in 2021, when Sky Hotel Apartments and Bjørvika Apartments became one. We enhance our offer by opening new accommodations and by refining what we already have, to meet the demands of the market.
Together with the guests and staff we can grow, continue to develop our operations, and offer a second home to lots of visitors.
